Advanced music students from Churchill Academy

Music students from Churchill Academy compete for the generous cash prize (from an anonymous donor), the opportunity to perform at a lunchtime concert at St. George's Bristol and our 'Audience' and 'Junior' trophies.

The Raymond Hayter Song Prize will also be awarded to the student who the Music Department of Churchill Academy feel has not only the most promising voice but has also worked hard at the competition.

The standard is high, the atmosphere thrilling and the adjudication is lively and informative.

The judging panel this year will be chaired by Jon Thorne, violist with the Badke Quartet. Jon is a strong believer in music education and teaches viola at the Royal College of Music and the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. He is also a trustee of Vacation Chamber Orchestras. John was a Juror for the European Music Festival for Young People in Neerpelt, Belgium and for the Ripon Young Musicians’ Festival.

Jon will be joined by Alice Harper, MA Cantab, Soprano and Adrian Trapp MA Cantab Organist and Director of Music, Weston-S-Mare parish church.

With delicious nibbles in the interval, this popular event will not only warm even the chilliest winter evening but it has become a high spot in our Young Churchill Music! calendar.
